Using Library Facilities

Who Can Use the Library

  • Kindai University undergraduate and graduate students
  • Faculty and staff (including retirees)
  • Kindai University alumni
  • Persons covered by interlibrary loan agreements with other universities
  • Other persons given permission by the library director (including registered members of the general public)

Applying to Use the Library

Refer to the application procedures and conditions below.

Undergraduate Students, Graduate Students, Faculty, and Staff (including retirees) of the Higashiosaka Campus

You do not need to apply to use the library. Bring your student card or library card and you can use the library.

  • Faculty and staff who have not net applied for a library card should go to the third floor main counter. The application process is simple and you can begin using the library immediately.

Kindai University Correspondence Division Students

You do not need to apply to use the library.
Bring your student card and proof of identification and you can use the Central Library.

Persons Affiliated with Faculties and Laboratories Outside of the Higashiosaka Campus

1. Undergraduate students and graduate students of the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty of Engineering

You do not need to apply to use the library. Bring your student card and you can use the Central Library.

2. Faculty and staff of the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty of Engineering

Have a library card made at the library of the faculty where you work.

You can use this library card at the Central Library.

3. Undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff outside of the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty of Engineering

Undergraduate students and graduate students should bring their student card to the third floor main counter.
After filling out some simple forms, you can use the Central Library.

Alumni

Graduates of Kindai University should refer to the section Alumni in order to apply to use the library.

All Others Who Wish to Use the Library

Persons other than those specified above can use the Central Library as members of the general public. Please refer to the section Visitors in order to apply to use the library.

Entering and Exiting the Library

Entering the Library

Use your student card (or library card) and come in through the entrance gate.

If you forget your student card (or library card), go to the reception counter.

Exiting the Library

Exit the library only through the exit gate.

Note that a buzzer will sound if you pass through the exit gate carrying materials that have not been properly checked out. In this case, you will be considered to have attempted to remove materials without proper permission.

The buzzer may also sound if you pass through the exit gate carrying things like rental CDs, videocassettes, DVDs, umbrellas, cell phones, and books checked out from other libraries. In this case, please cooperate with the library staff in finding the cause of the alarm.

  • Any changes to library hours will be reported on the library Dates and Hours and the library bulletin board. Changes are likely to be unscheduled library closures on Sundays and public holidays.

Library Closures

  • November 5 (School foundation day)
  • Specified school vacation periods in summer and winter
  • There may be other unscheduled library closures.

Library Rules

Please follow these rules when using the library.
  • Do not chat in the library(except BIBLIOTHEATER).
  • Turn your cell phone to silent mode. Do not talk on the phone in the library(except BIBLIOTHEATER).
  • Do not eat or smoke in the library. (You may drink from plastic bottles, thermoses, or other such sealed containers.)
  • Keep your student card or library card with you at all times. Do not lend these to anyone.
  • Do not lend books that you have checked out to other people.
  • You are responsible for safeguarding your own valuables and personal belongings.
  • Do not bother other library patrons.
  • Follow the orders of library staff. Show staff your student card or library card if requested to do so.
  • Handle all library materials with care.
  • Persons who fail to abide by these rules may be asked to leave the library.

Using Library Computers

There are computers available for use in the Central Library and in the branch libraries. Different types of computers have different log-on methods and uses. See the table below for details.
Below, you will also find a list of locations where you can use the library's Wi-Fi.

Types of Computers and How to Log On

Type A Free-Access Computers
How to log on Type in the academic user ID and password.
Uses
  • Internet (OPAC, databases, e-journals, e-books, My Library, etc.)
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • USB flash drives, CDs, DVD-ROMs, etc.
Computer location
  • 3rd and 4th floors of Central Library
  • Science and Engineering Branch Library
  • Literature, Arts, and Cultural Studies Branch Library
  • Law School Branch Library
Rules
  • Be sure to log off when you are finished.
  • Do not save files on a library computer.
  • Use computers only for searching and school-related work.
  • Do not view offensive and/or immoral websites.
  • If a computer is inactive for 5 minutes, it will automatically log off.
Type B Free-Access Computers
How to log on Inquire at the 3rd floor main counter of the Central Library.

OPAC Computers
How to log on No ID or password is required to log on.
Uses
  • Only for searching OPAC (online public access catalog)
Computer location
  • 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors of Central Library, main stack room
  • Literature, Arts, and Cultural Studies Branch Library
  • Law School Branch Library
Rules
  • Do not log off.
  • When finished, return to the start screen.
  • If a computer you want to use is logged off, type "user" in the user field, leave the password field blank, and press the enter key.

About Academic User ID and Password

Where to Obtain
  • Undergraduate students, graduate students, and Correspondence Division students (full-time students and part-time students) of the Higashiosaka Campus will receive their academic user ID and password from their respective faculties when they enroll.
  • Persons affiliated with Kindai University other than those specified above should inquire at their faculty office or at Information on the first floor of KUDOS.
  • If you forget your academic user ID and password, inquire at Information on the first floor of KUDOS. Be sure to bring your student card with you.

Campus Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi Locations in the Libraries

  • Central Library: 3-B and 3-D reading rooms on 3rd floor; 4-B reading room on 4th floor; 5-B, 5-D, and 5-E reading rooms on 5th floor
  • Science and Engineering Branch Library (1st floor, Building No. 19)
  • Literature, Arts, and Cultural Studies Branch Library (1st floor, Building A)
  • Law School Branch Library (8th floor, Building B)
  • Each Wi-Fi location can accommodate the use of up to 20 devices at the same time.
