Databases (off-campus use)
Service Overview
You can use a computer, tablet, or smartphone to access e-journals and databases—for which Kindai University has licensing agreements—from outside the university via the Kindai University network.
Please read the Terms of Use below before accessing these databases.
Eligible Users
Undergraduates, graduate students, and full-time faculty and staff of Kindai University

- Windows Vista/7/8/8.1
- Mac OS (operation confirmed with Mac OS X 10.10)
- Android (compatible with Android OS 4.0 or later)
- iOS (iPhone/iPad) (compatible with iOS 6 or later)
- Linux (operation confirmed on CentOS 5)
Check These Items before Use (acquiring an academic user ID and password)
1. Undergraduates and Graduate Students of the Higashiosaka, Nara, Wakayama, or Hiroshima Campuses
No application is necessary. Log in with the academic user ID and password issued to you when you were admitted.
- Correspondence Division students must apply to the Administrative Office of the Correspondence Division prior to use. Please note that only full-time students can use this service.
2. Full-time Faculty and Staff of the Higashiosaka Campus
Please obtain an academic user ID and password.
Please inquire at the Administrative Office of your faculty regarding acquiring an academic user ID.
3. For Persons Other Than 1 and 2 Above
To obtain a user name and password, request an "E-journal and Database Off-Campus Access Application Form" in advance at any library counter, fill in the required items, and return the form to the library counter.
The applicant must bring the application form to the library counter in person. We will confirm the applicant's identity at the time we accept the application. We ask your cooperation in this matter.
Once the application is submitted, it takes about five days until the ID and password are issued.

- Osaka-Sayama Campus: Faculty of Medicine Library
- Wakayama Campus: Faculty of Biology-Oriented Science and Technology Library
- Hiroshima Campus: Faculty of Engineering Library
- Fukuoka Campus: Faculty of Humanity-Oriented Science and Engineering Library
Terms of Use
- Please be responsible in keeping your ID and password safe and secure.
- If we discover fraudulent use or illicit activity, we will suspend use.
Prohibited Actions
In general, the following actions are strictly prohibited under the agreement with database providers.
Engaging in these activities may be regarded as copyright infringement, and may result in cancellation of the agreement or suspension of service for the entire university.
- Use for purposes other than individual study or academic research.
- Publishing search results (data) without permission of the database producer/owner.
- Providing or distributing search results (data) to third parties, regardless of whether via printed hardcopy or electronic methods.
- Acquiring excessive amounts of data at one time or continuously, whether manually or via use of an automated program.
- Other acts contrary to the Terms of Use.
Usage Instructions
Refer to the following when using a Windows, iOS, or Android device.
Connecting for the First Time Using a Windows, iOS, or Android Device
- For the second and subsequent times, skip to the "Connecting for the Second or Subsequent Time" section below.
For Windows Vista/7 Devices
- Click on the
- Enter your academic user ID and password.
- The "Manual Installation" screen will appear. Follow the instructions on the screen to install. (If the security warning screen shown below appears, click "Install".)
The screen below will be displayed in the browser and installation begins.
- When the following screen appears, (List of Available Services), installation is complete.
- If the Windows "Allow change" dialog box appears during installation, click "OK" to confirm and proceed with the installation.
- If progress on the installation stops, the installation may have already been completed. From the Windows menu button at the bottom left of the screen , select All Programs → Cisco. If Cisco AnyConnect is displayed, Start from there. If it is not displayed, perform the installation procedure again from 1-1.
- If you are prompted to enter a VPN server during start up, enter ssl-gw.clib.kindai.ac.jp.
- During start up, if you are asked to enter an ID and password, enter your academic user ID.
For Windows 8/8.1 Devices
- Click on the

When installation is complete, use the Search function in the Charms Bar on the right side of the screen and search for Cisco AnyConnect. Then launch the application.
- We recommend creating a shortcut on the desktop.
- Access databases and e-journals from this page. Note, however, that the accessible titles will vary depending on the campus to which you belong.

Download and install the Cisco AnyConnect application.
iOS Note: Available from App Store
Android Note: Available from Google Play.
A dedicated app is available for each of the following models. - Tap the AnyConnect icon to launch the application.
- At the initial startup, tap to agree to the End User License Agreement. Also, tap "OK" when the following message appears.
- Tap Connections < Add VPN Connection to add a new gateway access point. (Enter the server address: ssl-gw.clib.kindai.ac.jp)
- At the top of the screen, turn on the AnyConnect VPN (move the slider to the right).
- Enter your academic user ID and password and tap the Connections button.
When your ID and password have been authenticated, the service will be accessible. (VPN will be displayed at the top of the screen.)
- Launch an Internet browser on your device and access databases and e-journals from this page. Note, however, that the accessible titles will vary depending on the campus to which you belong.
Connecting for the Second or Subsequent Time on a Windows, iOS, or Android Device
For Windows Vista/7 Devices
- From the Windows menu button at the bottom left of the screen, select All Programs → Cisco, and click on Cisco AnyConnect to launch the application.
- Enter your academic user ID and password, and log in.
For Windows 8/8.1 Devices
- Use the Search function in the Charms Bar on the right side of the screen and search for Cisco AnyConnect. Then launch the application.

For iOS or Android Devices
- Tap the AnyConnect icon to launch the application.
- Tap Connections and then the gateway access point to be used. (Enter the server name: ssl-gw.clib.kindai.ac.jp)
- Enter your academic user ID and password and tap the Connections button.
When your ID and password have been authenticated, the service will be accessible. Disconnecting
For Windows Vista/7/8/8.1 Devices
Click the connection icon at the bottom right of the screen and select VPN Disconnect.
For iOS Devices
- Tap the AnyConnect icon.
- Slide the AnyConnect VPN button to the left. Your VPN session is terminated when Details displays Disconnected. (VPN displayed at the top of the screen will also disappear.)
For Android Devices
- Tap the AnyConnect icon.
- In the AnyConnect home window, tap Menu → Exit. Your VPN session is terminated when VPN at the top of the screen has disappeared.
- If you cannot terminate AnyConnect normally, open the Android application management screen and tap Force Stop to terminate the application manually.
