Using the Library

For Alumni and Visitors

Please see below to find out which library services you are eligible to use and the conditions and paperwork required to apply for them.

Alumni

Available Services

  • Read library materials
  • Borrow up to five books at a time, with a loan period of 15 days (regular loan period)
  • Get advice on using the library
  • You cannot put books on hold or order them from another Kindai library.
  • You have no access to audiovisual materials, either for viewing in the library or for borrowing.
  • The Kindai alumni library card is valid only until the end of the academic year (renewable upon request).
  • Those who were part-time students of the Correspondence Division are not entitled to a Kindai alumni library card. If you wish to use the Central Library after graduation, you will need to apply for a general public access card.

Applying to Use the Library

Graduates of Kindai University who wish to have access to the Central Library can apply at the third floor main counter.

After your application has been processed, you will be issued a library card.

Necessary Paperwork

  • A completed application form for graduates requesting access to the Central Library.
    The application form is available at the third floor main counter; alternatively, you can download a PDF file 卒業生用入館許可申請書(160 KB)
  • An official document (such as your driver's license or a copy of your health insurance card) showing your current address
  • Two photographs (3 × 2.5 cm)
    ID photographs are recommended. We cannot accept snapshots in which your face is not recognizable.
  • Your photographs must have been taken within the last year.
  • The photographs must show the head (with the face in the center of the image) and must include the top of the shoulders. Any hat or cap must be removed.

How Long Is Your Card Valid?

  • Valid from the date of issue until the end of the current academic year.

In order to renew your card, you will need the following three items:

  • Your Kindai alumni library card
  • An official document (such as your driver's license or a copy of your health insurance card) showing your current address
  • Two photographs (3 × 2.5 cm)

Visitors

People listed below have access to the Central Library no matter whether or not they are currently registered at Kindai University.

1. Students, Faculty, and Staff from Educational Institutions Such As Universities, Junior Colleges, and Other Schools

Available services
  • Visit the library and read materials
  • Interlibrary loan (photocopying and borrowing)

Please notify your library beforehand of your request to use our library and ask them to contact us.

2. Access by the General Public

(The application period has already ended for this academic year.)

Members of the general public who may use the Central Library
  • Any person who lives or works in the community and is over 20 years old
  • Parents or guardians of students of Kindai University or pupils of affiliated schools
  • Any person participating in extension courses organized by Kindai University

  • Get advice on using the library
  • Undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff from other universities are not allowed to apply as general public users. Those who wish to use our library need to follow the procedure indicated in "1. Students, Faculty, and Staff from Educational Institutions Such As Universities, Junior Colleges, and Other Schools."
  • You cannot put books on hold or order them from another Kindai library.

Local High School Students (summer time only)

Available Services

  • Visit the library and read materials (third to fifth floors of the Central Library)
  • Get advice on using the library

Applying to Use the Library

  • Regarding when the library will be open to high school students in 2017, we will announce the dates as soon as this information has been determined.
